Merri Scheeler, Embroidery Operator

Dubow Employee Profile

Here at Dubow, we’re constantly pushing the envelope of what’s possible; we seek out the most innovative techniques and technology that keep our customers front and center. Behind our creativity and service is the best team in the industry!

As an embroidery operator, what are your responsibilities?

I started working in digital, and went back and forth between departments. Then they needed extra help in embroidery, so I volunteered to learn. I’ve been there ever since. I operate the embroidery machines, specifically the four machines that work independently of each other.

Today, for example, we had to get all the “drop dead” orders out. Those are the ones that must be finished today to meet customer deadlines. So I get the pattern, put it on the machine, make sure all the threads are right for it. I also make sure it looks nice for the customers. If it’s not something I would wear, then we redo it!

Why did you join the Dubow team?

I was working for a big retailer and was doing way more work than my job description. I was burned out.

My sister-in-law said Dubow was hiring, so I checked them out. I got an interview and took a tour, and learned that I could either work with a team or by myself. I liked those options and I liked the work environment.

You joined Dubow less than a year ago. What’s been memorable so far?

I loved doing all the screen print shirts for kids’ summer camps. I think one of the orders had 17,000 shirts and another order was 10,000 shirts. We had to ship the right amounts to the right locations, and it was a short turnaround time. That was challenging and fun.

What excites you about your work?

I just love meeting new people and talking to them. The other day, I got to train in two blind gentlemen and I really enjoyed that experience.

What do you wish others knew about Dubow?

We work really hard to get orders out and make them perfect. Every department has their own role in making that happen, and we work together.

Sometimes the work looks difficult at first, but everyone is here to help. You can ask anyone anything, and if they don’t know the answer, they’ll help you figure it out. No one ever gets annoyed that you’re asking a question. I really appreciate that.

What do you like to do outside of work?

I love sitting in my hammock, enjoying the sunshine and listening to music. I’m looking forward to celebrating my daughter’s 21st birthday. And I’m a huge fan of the movie The Nightmare Before Christmas! I have tattoos, I have display houses, I have pictures. I am obsessed with Halloween and I go all-out to decorate with big blow-ups and everything. I make a haunted house and a graveyard and give kids and adults tours. I love it!
